From the homily of Fr Tony Moreno, SJ (JCAP President), given at the Missioning Mass on Dec 1, 2023:
“You have received so many graces over four months, despite a lot of challenges like losing your loved ones (a mother and several siblings). But I also sense, a deep solidarity of the community was there. You had a way of enjoying your company,… The EAPI encounter now lives in your hearts. It is not a perfect program, but it is an attempt to promote a synodal Church. EAPI, whether the SRE or PRD, is now part of your journey of healing, rebirth and recovery. The first grace to celebrate at this Mass is obviously gratitude.”
“The second point of reflection is the missio Dei which is so central in any Christian life and responsibility… Let us not forget that an assignment from our Superior or Bishop can be an act of sending, a missio Dei. It is not about us, but about the glory of God shining through our testimony and witness. A sure mark that God has not forgotten God’s people is that there is no end to sending people. Salvation history is about sending people, sending you and me, but also sending so many people to us. Each one of us here is heaven-sent.”
” A third point of reflection is synodality. The Gospel speaks of that prayer of Jesus: “that they may be one just as we are one.” Communion is an essential ingredient of synodality…. EAPI taught you discernment, working as a community, interculturality not just staying in a multicultural setting, safeguarding, being Church following Vatican II, and a lot more. That’s the reason why EAPI was created: to promote a synodal Church, a discerning leadership, not apostolic activism. Thanks to social media, you can foster a synodal community among yourselves, and hopefully you can extend this to others. Gratitude, missio Dei and synodality – these are extraordinary graces to receive. Deo gratias! Congratulations!”
