By unanimous endorsement of the EAPI Board of  Trustees and the members of the Corporation, Fr John Che-chon Chong SJ has been appointed the new EAPI Director starting January 2022.

Born in 1957, Fr Chong entered the Society of Jesus in 1990.   After his ordination in 1996, he pursued his graduate studies in Ignatian Spirituality.

In 2000, he obtained a  Doctorate in Sacred Theology in spirituality at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, Spain.  

After his graduate studies, he became an assistant professor of spirituality and spiritual director at Kwangju Catholic University (2000 – 2009). He was then appointed Socius to the Provincial Superior of  Korea (2009 – 2013), and became the Provincial Superior of Korea (2014-2020). He is currently the Director of the Institute for Ignatian  Spirituality, and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of “Gipum Nanum” (“Sharing of  Joy”) Foundation for poor countries
